History
THE FAIRFIELD CHOIR started in the 1960s as an all girls choir before becoming a mixed choir in 1987.
The choir has participated in many competitions both locally and internationally and has achieved many awards.
In 1991, the choir won the coveted “Choir of the Year” award in the 2nd SYF competition. It also clinched the “Best Secondary School Choir” award in 1995 with a Certificate of Distinction.
The following SYF competitions, the choir was awarded the Silver awards in 1999, 2001, 2011, Gold awards in 1997, 2003, 2007 and 2009, and Gold with Honours award in 2005.
Recent Achievements
THE FAIRFIELD CHOIR achieved the Certificate of Distinction in the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2023. The choir was selected to perform the Esplanade for the SYF opening ceremony on 25th July 2005 and again at the Esplanade Theatre for the SYF Festival Concert on 1st July 2023. Additionally, the choir won the Silver Award in the Singapore International Choral Festival in 2017 and 2019.
International Competitions
THE FAIRFIELD CHOIR embarked on its first overseas trip to Perth, Australia, in 1994, where they performed at various venues, showcasing and enhancing Fairfield's reputation as a distinguished singing school. In 2002, the choir earned a Silver award at the International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music with Petr Eben's Prize in Prague, Czech Republic. This success was followed by a Silver award at the VIII Concorso Corral Internazionale in Riva del Garda, Italy, in 2004. The choir further solidified its international recognition by achieving the prestigious Gold Zlata award at the 34th International Festival of Songs in Olomouc, Prague, in 2006. Their excellence continued in 2010, when the choir won a Silver award at the International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music in Bratislava, Slovakia.
